Reflection

Writing my first article has taught me a lot.I have always been interested in Journalism and I when I found out i was going to be in this class I was so excited but I will also admit that this class caused me a little bit of stress. But nethertheless,it was a very rewarding experience and I learned so much. One of the first things i learned is that to write a good news story you have to have a lot of information in your article.I had enough but I think it could have been better. All in all,a story is not a story if you don’t have all the facts. Also,I learned that you have to be unbiased and just stick to the facts.I am a very opinioniated person and while writing my story,I often fought the burning desire to write how I felt about the issue. But for the good of my article I just had to suck it up and keep writing. But i still hope I get an opinion piece next time! Hahahaha.Another important thing I learned is that The Beachcomber is like a small village.Everyone depends on each other. In order for the village(or in this case The Beachcomber),to blossom and flourish, everybody has to do their job and help each other improve or else the village would fall apart.I am so thankful that I am in a place where everyone cares so much about one common pupose and helping other people who are working toward that purpose too.But most importantly,I learned that to be a good journalist, you have to have confidence in yourself. You have to believe that you can do a great job. Also,if you don’t have confidence in yourself, how are the other people that work with you supposed to have confidence in you? This experience of writing my first article has been challening but worth it because from just writing one article,I learned lessons that will last me a lifetime.
