Textbook delays causes by budget cuts at Miami Beach Senior High are causing teachers and students to have to deal with this issue in various ways such as students having to carry books to and from class and teachers alotting students to share books.Budget cuts have been affecting everything from teachers salaries to overpopulation in classes and it’s become apparent that lack of textbooks have become affected by this “They’re [the school board] isn’t giving the school to do our job so we’re just going to do the best with what we have.” explained Jodie Robins,Assistant Principal in charge of textbooks.Textbook delays have been on the rise due to the recent downfall in the economy which has cut teacher’s salaries and overflooded classrooms and now textbooks are suffering as a result of this.
According to Robins,200 more students enrolled in MBSH that the administration did not expect and were not financially prepared to provide textbooks for.
One method students are using to cope with this issue is to carry their books to and from classes.”It’s so frustrating that I have to carry heavy books all day” explained Freshman Natalie Mendez.
Also last year’s textbook delays are not nearly as bad as last year according to Sophmore Heather Strully.”They’re taking a lot longer to get books this year.” explained Strully
